NeoAccel Comes To Town

By Sohini Bagchi
Bangalore, Feb 22, 2006

SSL VPN is emerging as a viable alternative to full-blown VPN (IPSec) and security vendors are coming up with several upgraded versions of its application.

NeoAccel, a leading provider of Internet security solutions has ambitious plans to make its foray in India. Michel Susai, CEO, NeoAccel, told CXOtoday that the company has earmarked a Rs50 crore investment for its development operations here.

NeoAccel intends to recruit a team of world-class IT-professionals to address security, networking and technical support to both Indian and global enterprises. Susai feels that the SSL VPN platform is evolving to include not just some remote access scenarios, or only web-based access, but literally access from all places via wireless and wired, from all devices, and by all users.

However, he did point out that most SSL VPN vendors and enterprises have to live with performance issues inherent to first and second-generation SSL VPNs.

On the various difficulties CIOs face with conventional SSL VPNs, he pointed out that wireless LANs and secure access networks are prone to peak-period congestion. NeoAccel's SSL VPN-Plus achieves from 6x to 30x better performance than conventional SSL VPNs.

"We have always addressed the fundamental technology flaw in conventional SSL VPNs. Our approach to providing a network security solution with ASIC-class performance makes the difference. Unlike conventional SSL VPNs, NeoAccel's SSL VPN-Plus can be deployed to provide high-performance access to all IP-based applications," he added.

Talking specifically about the company's solutions, he said, "Our SSL VPN-Plus is particularly well suited for high-demand enterprise deployments that are known to choke the performance of conventional SSL VPNs due to what is known as TCP-over-TCP meltdown. We have addressed these problems with two NeoAccel-designed technologies and eliminate 70% of context switching overhead."

Though the company has admittedly made a relatively late entry in the Indian market, and has to cope with market competition in the security space, NeoAccel has a different set of challenges. Said Susai: "We are capitalizing on a significant fundamental technology flaw with existing SSL VPN products, so there should not be a tough competition."

He also pointed out that today's increasingly sophisticated and mobile workforce demands remote access from multiple fixed and wireless devices, and they want that access to perform as if they were on their local corporate network. Hence, the company targets multiple verticals targets multiple verticals.

"Security has become the key concern of all CIO across verticals today. With NeoAccel's entry into the Indian market, SSL VPN will surely be redefined," he said.
